  • oil tank check valve

I was trying to get my gas tank out of my 96 GSX (at least tipped to get the tube out of it). I am now convinced it is impossible. This has the large 15 gallon tank. While putting the tank back I noticed the check valve nipple for the oil tank has no hose on it. Is this just for air and doesn't need a hose? I looked on my XP and it has a hose that is about 8 inches long but has nothing attached to the other end. I can see a hose clamp used to be on it. Is this just for venting and connects to nothing, or someplace safe to get air without sucking water? If so where does it connect?

It's there to allow air into the tank as the oil level goes down, that is normal.

I don't need to hook a hose to it at all?

If you overfill your tank, oil will dribble out.
Dont be afraid to run a hose off the one way valve to a high point. This will eliminate the oily bilge drama.
