  • 1270 EGT's on 96XP

I have a 96 Xp with a r&d rec head, spec 2 factory pipe, and novi carbs. Does 1270 sound high? The shop tried numerous things and cant get it below. Detonation sensor is giving ok result I guess.

    What detonation sensor???

    1270 is high for EGT's.

Try using a better quality fuel, then see what the EGT's are.

Sraight C12 was used. This is the 96 XP that had the air leak a few years ago. The shop said they put a detonation sensor on it and put it in the tank and it seemed ok.

Must be a pretty fancy shop. $5000.00 detonation sensors are few and far between......

Is the 1270 a peak reading, or does it stay there.

I believe it stays around there at full throttle. I have just been talking to them on the phone keeping updated. They have spent quite a bit of time trying different fuel pumps, different pickup setup, checking for leaks, but still cant get it down to what they would like to see. I setup the rotary valve timing which I could have done wrong but I dont see how. I dont know if that would cause high egt's or even run right. I also did a leak test after I put the gasket sealer on the intake o-ring and it held forever when I rebuilt the top end. Maybe it will have different results when its on the lake? Hopefully anyways. I'll pick it up monday and report what happens on the lake. Just no other ideas on what else it could be.

Try getting rid of that head if it doesn't come down. AGAIN, try better gas. Lousy gasoline burns very hot.

Sorry, I see you are running C-12.

I took it out to the lake.... it was somewhat choppy, and egt's ran around 1150 but once in a while they would jump above 1250. Is that normal?
