  • Cleaning your pistons

I have a 97 XP and notice a little rust color coming out of the spark plug holes. Looks like it was not winterized properly.
I pulled the engine out and figured I just need to clean the pistons up. I was told to soak them in mineral spirits over night before trying to clean them.
Are there any suggestions in solutions to use?
    Thanks for the info!!

If you see rust, it's not from the pistons, even though it's on them - it's from the steel parts rusing - the bearings, sleeves, etc. You need to have the cylinders lightly honed and re-ring the pistons, but I would recommend a crank also. I'm going through the same thing right now :(
