• Questions about smoking GTX

I have a 1996 that just had the carbs rebuilt and the rectifier replaced. I sent the carbs over to Bill, who rebuilt the carbs for me. Put it in the water this weekend. Seems to run great! Bill, you are the man

The only question i have is the boat smokes a ton, even after it's warmed up. What should i adjust or look for?

Thanks!
Bob

It's a bone stock 1996 GTX. Sea level, florida, jacksonville to be exact.

Are you using premix or oil pump. And if using pump have you check adjustment. And if using premix whats your mixture. Smoke is preety common with premix.

i'm using the pump.
should i have to check the adjustment (referring to the hash marks on the pump) considering i never touched it? or at least i'm not aware of touching it lol. Heck, where is the oil pump located?

oil pump should be on the front magneto cover.

There should be 2 tick marks that need to be lined up, might need a mirror and flashlight to see them...but since i'm small i can just lay on the seat and stick my head down in there.....LOL

If you had the carbs off, you probably had the cable off too? Always readjust the pump after re-installing the cable. If you do not at least look at it, you may find that the calbe came off at the pump and it is running in the default position and you are getting maximum oil, even at idle speeds.
