  • Hard Starting/Low Power

Finished putting together a 787 motor (previous crankshaft siezure), It's very hard to start and low on power. The RV is 159 degree timed to 146 btdc and 65 atdc.

My first thought is I screwed up the RV timing but, it also has a fuel feed problem. Cleaned and inspected fuel strainer and cup, now can't get fuel to flow (yes, plenty of fuel in the tank).

Could incorrect RV timing cause a fuel feed problem in addition to hard starts and low power?

    No.
If you timed it to 146x65 degrees, it will run fine. You have another problem.

Did you reverse the two fuel lines ?

Is you selector valve clogged up?

Did you install the pistons with the arrows pointed to the exhaust side?

Fuel lines appear okay - fliter line to bottom inlet on carb pump, return lines off top. Bleed system until fuel was flowing out return lines, so I don't suspect any problem with the fuel valve.

Arrow on piston domes pointing towards exhaust port.

Well, looks like we should have invested in new pistons and rings. LOW compression - VERY LOW!

Check the o-rings on top of the cylinders. They could have been pinched or blown out causing your loss of compression.

:( No, The o-rings were okay. The pistons were not, don't know if detonation problem from lack of fuel but both pistons damaged at compression ring grove, same side as exhaust port.

            Top end repair time!

You probably have a massive intake air leak or the carb internal filters are nearly clogged....
