  • 97 gtx not charging wot

installed new battery and charged it. it cranks and idles fine. when revving past idle the tach goes to zero. digital tach works fine from 0-7000. it has a flashing 12v low on maint light. the problem is that if you run wot on a new freshly charged battery, it causes the battery to be drained comepletely dead in @ 10 min. then ski shuts off. while idleing after a fresh charge it has no 12v low light on. seems to be charging at idle but giving no charge at high rpms @ 2500 or above causes battery to go dead. plese any help would be greatly appreciated. i am a helicopter mechanic and outboard mechanic but am green when it comes to a ski..thanks

Most likely you need a new rectifier, very common on Sea-Doo's. Get it from your dealer.

Open up the front grey box. The rectifier has three yellow and one red wire coming from it. Fortunately it's easy (and relatively inexpensive) to find/replace.

                Steve,
The XP and the GTX have completely different ignitions on them.
