  • No Spark

Please Help - I have a 1996 GTX. It was running great and all the sudden it quit - it appears to have no spark at the plugs. I check all fuses - back & front, trim back spark plug wires, check battery/cables, stater/sol, and start/off swith, and connections. Any ideas??? Appreciate any help - Thanks - dead in water

I would check your pickup trigger for damage in your flywheel housing.

Might have bad ignition coil . Have you look at all wires in the black box beside battery . Make sure not wet .

How do I check the pick up trigger?

As for the black box it is dry, no corrosion and all wires checked OK. How do you check the coil?
            Thanks

Pull your flywheel cover off and you will see everything. Look for debris and damage.

Appreciate it, but is that something that normally fails? Or is there something else I should check? Also, any chance that it is the coil?

A dealer or shop with a service manual can check the magneto and the pickup with a special wire harness and the proper diagonostic tools.

Hi All, thanks for all the input..It ended up being the pickup that is mounted inside the front cover. The pickup mount (metal bracket) busted and was out of place. Anyway, if you are reading this - do you know is this a common problem? I look to see if I had a busted hub or flywheel maybe causing the pickup bracket to bust but found not problems at least visually...Thank a bunch

It often breaks from vibration and age, fairly common, hense the first thing I had you check.

Common on 1995-1996 787 motors. In 1997, SD upgraded the pickups with a better mounting bracket.
