  • how to check for an exhaust leak?

Will soap and water do the trick (looking for bubbles)? Or is it better to put some sort of 'sniffer' in the hull? If so, where can I get one?

All you have to do is rev it up on the trailer and look for smoke in the hull.

i have tried that, and I have not seen smoke. However, after riding for a while, if I pull the seat, smoke comes wafting out.

I'll try the trailer again, but how high should I rev it? Should I run it on the hose?

Yes run it on the hose and blip it to WOT several times.
