  • Broken Washer on exhaust cone ?

Ski has been shaking at no-wake speeds, not too much, but, more than it used to.
I know my idle is a bit low (at about 1350), but still thought it was shaking a bit too much.
As soon as you accelelate, the shake stops, and it runs great.

When I was at the shop, the mechanic found a broken washer about the size of a quarter in my hull. We looked around a bit, but couldn't find where it went, and the engine didn't seem loose.

From looking at the micro-fiche, there should be a 8mm washer on the bolt that holds the tail cone to the engine block.
So it looks that this is the mysterious broken washer.
How the heck could this have happened?
    Nothing else is loose.

Question is, could this washer be the main cause of the shake ?
Is this a special washer? Could anywasher of similar size replace it?
    Could anything else be loose?
Any other places I should check?

The ski is running great, but I am just concerned about something else coming loose.

    Thanks!

      Oh yeah...
      '96 SeaDoo GSX 800

      With the 787 engine.

Come to think of it, The back of the engine came loose after some serious jumping on Lake Erie. To be exact, the 6 engine bolts that go thru the engine support into the block backed out a bit.

Could the washer on the cone support have broken then?

      Thanks!

Most likely it's normal and your idle is just a bit low. You may have a broken motor mount, or more though - so check them out.

It's not a 'tail cone' - it's called the PTO shield, and those washers don't do a thing. There are two plastic wing nuts securing it, and none of that has anything to do with any vibration. it just means if the wing nuts are there, someone forgot to put hte washers on.

          The PTO cover is fine.

The tail cone bolt (and missing washer) is at the front of the engine. That is where the washer is missing.

My question is, could that missing washer be causing extra vibration?

Or could something else be loose.
My mechanic looked at it, and said the engine mounts are fine, but we overlooked the broken washer, until I recently discovered it.

          Thanks!

I have no clue what part you are describing. Go here and fine the part, and tell me what section and number it is.

On the ENGINE SUPPORT AND MUFFLER fiche,
it is the washer (part 17) that is missing.

It holds the cone pipe to the engine block (I think)

The washer appears to hold the RUBBER BUSHINGs (part 6) down to absorb vibration.

              Hope this helps
              Thanks

                It's called a head Pipe.

Yes if that washer broke and the bolt was no longer tight, the engine would vibrate badly. You should go over all botls especially those on the exhaust and manifold to make sure everythign is still torqued down.

According to the fiche, the broken washer is on the cone pipe, which is the lower exhaust.

Could just this washer being broke off cause that much vibration?
Could something else be broke? I didn't
                  notice anything else missing.

Could I just find any ole washer of the same size to replace it?

                  Thanks!

...And as soon as I go off idle, the shakes stop.

OK, same part, and same reponse applies. Yes you can get a SS washer from the hardware store too.
