  • 95 xp cavitation problem?

i recently bought a 95 xp. it cavitates on take off even after i replaced the wear ring and rebuilt the impeller. I heard it might be a commen problem. is it, or is there something else wrong. the gap between the wear ring and the impeller is about .50 mm

Other possible causes could be the through hull seal leaking air or the ride plate not properly sealed.
Here's how I found and cured the same problem on the same ski. Lower the nose of the trailer as low as possible and squirt some water from the rear onto the top of the ride plate. If the water leaks out from between the ride plate and the hull towards the front of the ride plate, that's your problem.
The correct way to seal it, if this is happening, is to remove the ride plate and reseal it but, at risk of criticism, I just waited till the water had dried and then sealed all round the edge with some clear shower sealant. It made a mile of difference to the ski and was still holding up a year later when I sold the ski.

Remove the pump. Inspect the wear ring and impellor for bent blades, especially on the backside of the impellor. Inspect the pump to shoe seal. Inspect the ride shoe closely for (lack of) silicone at anyplace it meets the hull, especially at the upper part of the ringed part where the pump bolts up to it, and looking from underneath through the scoop grate area, at the sealant along the sides of the shoe and the hull. If you see any gaps at all, you need to remove the complete shoe from the hull and reseal it.

i did notice that the ride plate did leak water out slowly so i decided to take it apart and reseal it. in the proccess i realized i dont really know how. i took the pump out and all of the screws out including the intake grate. then i tried to get the aluminum shoe thing out. i dont know how to get that out. how do the bilge and cooling ports come apart from the hull or do they .

A 95XP has an aluminum 3 inch spacer to move the pump back 3 inches. You must pull that spacer out before you remove the rideplate. The three water "ports" actually plastic water fittings, are connected to the spacer and slide out the back of the hull with the spacer, or you can unscrew them from inside of the hull.

See my other post about removing the rideplate/shoe.
