  • 97 gtx bogs

Hi, I have 2 97 GTX skis. One of them bogs when it is on the trailer out of the water. It also idles very low, but it does that in or out of the water. I found this out the other day when I had it on the water hose flushing them out after a ride. It is my wifes and when we have it on the water, other than the low idle, it runs great. It outruns mine holeshot and topend. Any ideas what could be going on?

Please describe what you mean when you say "bogs on the trailer".

Is there excessive smoke involved from the tail pipe?

Do you mean it won't rev up?

Are the sparkplugs black and oily? Do they look the same in both clyinders?

Have you looked at the fuel water seperator for water in the gas? Clipped the plug wires back and re-installed the sparkplug connectors? New sparkplugs? Try this stuff first, it only takes a few minutes.

hey Bill thanks for the reply.
Yes that is it exactly, it will not rev up. When you try to rev it up it bogs almost to the point of shutting off. There is no excessive smoke. I did replace the plugs approx 10 hours ago and they were both black and oily. I don't understand why it only does this on the trailer. My other 97 GTX idles about 3k out of water, could it just be the idle needs adjusting? Thanks so much for your help!

Try adjusting the idle to 3k rpm out of the water. Maybe that is all it needs ?

If not, try adjusting your low speed adjusters until it accellerates correctly.

If that doesn't fix it, do a compression check. You should have 155 psi or close to it at sea level. Did you clip the sparkplug wires yet ?

Havent clipped the sparkplug wires yet. I am hoping Sat will be a good day to work on it. Where is the idle adjustment and the low speed adjustments? Is there one on each carb or just a single adjustment?

Each carb has a low speed adjuster on it near the base of the carb. It has a small tee handle.

A larger tee handle adjuster is located near the bracket that holds the throttle cable at the carb. It is for adjusting the idle speed. There is only one idle speed adjuster.
