    I installed a SBT engine in a 1997 GTX. After break-in I went WOT and it would only turn around 5400 rpm. It does not hesitate or skip, it just does not turn the rpms it should. I came back, rebuilt the carbs and went back to the lake. It runs the same, after you get it to 5400 rpm if you snap the throttle once or twice it will run on up over 6000 rpm. Any suggestions?

    Make sure you timed the rotary valve spot on, and check it's clearance.

      Sounds exactly like what mine is doing. (See Funky Acceleration on a GTX thread).

      Did you get the problem taken care of?

      How do I find/calibrate this rotary valve?

          I have a 97 GSX that has the same symptom.
          Sometimes when you jump it out of the hole
          it will hang up @ around 5400 rpm. If you let off and then pin it it will go to 6500. It only has 100 hours on it. The raves move very smoothly.
          I Have checked the filters on the carbs and they're clean. I'm not sure what to do next. It must need some tweeking of the needles, but I'm not sure how to do it on a watercraft.

            It doesn't sound like a rotary valve or carb problem to me. I'd be checking my water regulator on the muffler, although I wouldn't completely rule out the carbs as the problem.

              Well I cleaned my raves, And The problem hasn't changed. What do I check on my water regulator. What does it do??

                  so, if you had a badly worn wear ring, you would not have the required pressure to reduce the flow thru the water valve? ? ? ?

                  I cannot get top end rpm since I put in the SBT motor. jetting is spot on, and tech suggested that I check the clearence on the rotary valve plate. it checks out fine.. but still no real torque.

                  If I let it cavatate, or bounce the thing out of the water, it will build full rpm and have some top speed.. but it looses all touqe if you slow down and 'bite some water'.

                  I know that I need to work on the pump, but I have not had any time yet.. I was more worried about the engine..

                    Where are your carb needles set at and what exactly is your rotary valve clearance at?

                      I just learned of a service bulletin on the Raves for 96 & 97 800s. Cost about $200 for the updated ones. (That Sucks)

                        I would think the new RAVEs that we get from SBT would be fine as far as updates.. plus they are not = to stock any more ?
