  • 5 amp fuse blows

1998 gts ran fine last summer, took it out of storage the other day, installed the fully charged batery and the 5 amp fuse blows. Have checked and cleaned all connectons in the electrial box, replaced the starter solenoid, this did not help. If I unplug the cabel going to the generating coil in the magneto the fuse does not blow, these wires connect to the rectifier, solenoid and the mpem. I have replaced the solenoid, could the rectifier cause this problem, or do I need a new mpem. Help please.

Pull your flywheel cover and inspect for debris on your stator and pickup coil.

Swap the rectifier first. It can cause you to blow fuses. Unless the magneto housing is full of water, or a gear tooh is stuck in the magneto, your problem probably lies in the rectifier or the MPEM istself. Rectifiers are relativley cheap compared to MPEMs and magnetos, and they are very easy to change.
