  • Reverse gate sticking

Any tricks on making the reverse gate operate a little smoother on a 96 GTX? I have inspected the latch and it seems to be operating properly. When you put it in reverse, you have to jack with the handle 3-4 times before it will drop in. Seems like it should be smoother to me. I have adjusted the cable and made sure that the latch releases before the lever contacts the gate to push it down. Is it just me or is this a poor design? If there were a spring that held the gate up it would allow the latch to release before the gate started to move, but this unit has no such spring. Any thoughts?

You're the first I've heard with a complint about it. Make sure you aren't missing any bushings or spacers, and you don't have any grooves or burs on the rails or slots:

      I get this alot.

There is a stainless steel bracket mounted to the reverse hood arm that the aluminum latch catches to lock it open. Sometimes, you need to bend it in a little so that the latch releases easier. Also, you must inspect that aluminum latch for excessive wear and maybe replace it and the dowel pin that holds it on. Sometimes the dowel pin gets backed out a bit, and tapping it back into place will fix a sticking latch.

Other problems with the reverse are that the cable gets bowed right below the reverse handle wher it attaches to the handle.
