  • Sea Doo won't start

    I've got a '95 Sea Doo Bombardier SPI (587)
I've been trying a few things to get it running but it won't start, unless I take one of the spark plugs out. Any idea why that happens or what I can do to fix that problem?

    Thanks

Make sure the battery is good and charged.

    Take a compression check.

Did it start doing this suddenly?

Does it matter which plug you take out?

The battery is fully charged, I don't have a compresion tester but it puts out a good bit of pressure. I've been having problems starting the ski for quite some time now, but now I can't get it to start at all. I just found out that it will start with only one spark plug installed. It doesn't matter which plug is installed. Another thing that the ski has been doing (when I could get it started) was after about 30 min. or so of riding, it would start to bogg down periodicly until it would just shut off.

You need to get a compression tester, first off.

You might have a fuel problem, but need to verify the engine health before going further.

When you crank the motor with both the plugs in, does it spin fast or slow.
If it's slow you may have a poor ground wire (or one of the others) and the starter is taking all it's capacity trying to turn the motor leaving no power for a good spark.

You could check the spark with a spare plug. See what sort of spark you get with one plug in and then see if it's any difference with both plugs in the head.

            sounds like a bad coil { if the motor is spining fast with both plugs in }

The Motor spins fast with one plug in, but spins slow with both plugs.

Should I get a new ground wire, or just try cleaning the terminals?

remove the grounds , try to bend the ends , if there rotted they will bend easy and break, if there good they will be stiff but flex some . if there good clean them and replace , use dielectric grease on them , if that dont work get a new starter then you should be fine . you can try to clean your brushes in your starter but most times when there gone there gone .

I agree with 1fastski, problem solved taking off a spark plug boot.

sounds electrical, but is it spewing oil out the plug holes, or hole.........if that engine even has an inner crank seal.

Well, I cleaned up the ground wire and it started great. I put it in the water and rode it for about half an hour and it started boggin down real bad, then finally shut off. With the throttle held in the same position, it would bogg down, then rev up. Any Ideas of what could be wrong?

How fresh is your fuel? Could be water in the gas or trash in the carb or fuel filter. How long till it restarts and runs?

how is your fuel valve ? if its stiff get a new one , if it turns compleatly around , get a new one . if thats ok then it might be time to pull the carbs for cleaning .
