• OPAS Removal

OK guys, I was sick off all that OPAS stuff stuck on my 2002 GTX-DI so off it came. Those darn fins were always dragging and impeding the freedom of movement of the steering.

Problem now is there are five holes to plug up. Another site sells a block-off assembly but they are seriously back ordered??

Has anyone any experience fabricating their own OPAS block off plates?

....sounds like you have heard that before.

      Thanks for the speedy reply.

Oddly enough, some other company speaks highly of the block off kits on the net, but 100's of them are on back order whan you actually call!

I removed my OPAS when I changed my pump oil, which was before I checked the availability of the kits.

And btw my machine is an 02 GTXDI.

Remove the opas fins from the side of the ski.

Remove the pump cone, opas linkages and bottom arm bracket from the jet pump.

Spin the arms as you pull the shafts out from the hull, they unscrew.

Unhook the water line from the top of the pump. Plug the line end, put a plastic cap in the pump end (look at Home depot, plumbing section, trim to fit).

Fabricate metal plates to cover the inner and outer holes, drilling bolt holes to fit. Use Permatex The Right Stuff to seal, with a bead around center holes and bolt holes. Again, Home Depot sells sheets of aluminum or SS you can cut. Obviously you need the proper tools to do it, but it's not rocket science. You can shape them any way you wish as long as they cover.

A little birdie told me very inexpensive OPAS block off kits will be available from a certain source very soon, with much better instructions ;) Don't bother asking for more info
