Can a fuel selector switch go bad? I have a 94xp that will not run above idle. I noticed that my inline filter has very little gas in it at idle. With the engine off it fills back up.When you start it the filter goes way down again. Could I have a bad selector or maybe a vent stopped up? on/res makes no difference. I didnt notice a difference with the gas cap open either.I have recently tore down and cleaned my carbs also.Maybe something is stopped up in them.

on off switches do go bad. You can bypass it to see if thats whats wrong by hooking the on line straight to the fuel inlet of the carb. if it starts and runs then you have a bad fuel switch. The filter will drain of gas as the ski runs but its filled right back up by the sucking action of the fuel pump. youmay want to check the fuel vent check valve but usually that will aloow you to run for 10 to 15 minutes before it stops.

Fuel selector switches go bad all the time. I replace alot of them. About $25.
To test, remove the fuel lines and blow through it in the on and reserve position. There should be very little resistance, almost none.Bill O'Neal WCM

I found the problem...I bypassed the fuel selector with no luck.Turned out the ends of the plug wires were bad.Ski was loading up with poor spark to fire the gas. Trimmed the wires back and now it runs great. What I thought was poor gas flow was too many years of automotive repaires where there is plenty off gas in the inline filter. Thanks to all..
