  • Rotary valve cover scratches

What would be the rsult of a heavily scratched rotary valve cover and block surface? Also what would be the remedy?

Hard starting, no power in the water, etc. The surfaces need to be remachined.

if they are remachined, wont that alter the clearances for the valve?
      Who can remachine these?

The symptom is a very hard motor to get started. The cure is to machine the surfaces to a new smooth finish, and end up with between .010 and .015 clearance with the rotary valve and cover installed.

Then, try to keep from sucking so much water through the carbureators. Because that is what makes those grooves in it.

Some light scratching is normal wear, alot indicates a problem.

Only if they are remachined incorrectly!

Yes we do the covers on exchange for $100, and all our cases are remachined as part of our process.

Bill I think the problem came around when the piston skirt was shattered. Or they could have already been there and i only noticed them when i tore it apart. But I found piston parts everywhere
