  • 951 XPL Starter gear?Improved or aftermarket

Not sure where I read somewhere or was told by someone that there was an "improveed or aftermarket starter gear" for the 951. I saw alot of seadoo 951's had the prblem where teeth or fragments from starter gear break off and short out stator and/or magneto.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated,
    Dan

Actually, I believe there is only one company making them for SD, Yamaha and Kawasaki.

The broken teeth problem is a function of the MPEM being bad. It was a known problem on 1998 models of the 951 powered watercraft made by Sea Doo.

It wasn't the only problem. The bad MPEM's caused the low fuel beeper to sound off about once a minute too. It was quite annoying.

Lot's of 1998 models had to have the flywheel, stator and pickup replaced because of broken starter gear teeth. The cure was to replace the MPEM with the superceded MPEM.
