Hi everyone, I just bought a new 2000 XP and I was wondering if there were any reliability issues that I should look at right now.

Also I was wondering if after the initial mixing of the oil during break in (50:1) if there are any pros/cons to mix some oil with every tank of gas at a ratio of 150:1

About hte only thing you need to look out for is the water leak between the exhaust pipe and exhaust manifold, behind the rubber boot you shoul dhave installed there. At WOT it is known to spray water, which can get sucked into the engine and cause damage. Periodically inspect the area around the boot for water. A very good preventative measure is to buy an air filter and carb jet kit from www.watercraftmagic.com, with "Outerwears". It's basically a waterproof sock that goes over the aftermarket Flame arresotrs, but still lets air flow.

Do not mix more oil than your engine needs. More oil can be as harmful to your engine than not enough. Excess oil will cause the cylinders to glaze, and you will loose compression over time. Adding it to your tank will also lean out your fuel/air mixture, which in some cases can also cause direct damage. If you are staying with the stock oil injection system, do not add additional oil to the tank on your recreational craft.

How much will the outwears bring down the RPMs.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I remember reading 30-40 RPM...hardly anything. Bill O'Neil can give a better answer...

I was wondering about something along this line. When I picked up my used 99 GTX, the dealer gave me a rubber external cover to go around the exhaust manifold that apparently is on the newer models. Don't you think that should be enough to stop spray? It really fits snug.

That is called the recovery envelope, or boot. No, it does not stop the spray, it mearly redirects it. It is not 100% effective.
