  • 2000 XP 6400 RPM's

I jusb bought a 2000 XP and yesterday was the first time I really had a chance to ride. I rode for about an hour and noticed that rpm's never went past about 6400. Also top speed on the SD meter was in the mid to upper 50's. I thought that motor stock was supposed to turn at least 6800. This is a totally stock set up(For now). Want to get this straightened out before doing anything. Thanks.

Search here for posts on the water regulator. Make sure your high speed screws are all the way in. Try fresh plugs.

Did SD clear up the fuel line problems on the 2000 models, or should I replace mine.?

Cleaned up the raves, and cleaned out fuel filter & bowl.

After about 2 minutes at WOT, the rpms creep up to just under 7000 on the seadoo tach, and speed is at 64-65 on the speedo.
This seems about right for rpms, but why does it take that long to reach that level..

I didn't pinch the water reg. hose, but didn't seem to be leaking onto the pipe.

            Thanks.

Sorry to jump in on someone elses post, but you say pinch the water reg line..is that how you see if it's shot?

I believe so, they told me before to do a search on water regulator on the site.

There is a ton of info on it..

Basically you are manually overriding the regulator to shut off the water to the rear pipe, which is what it's supposed to do..

The thread I read said, only do this one pass or to determine if rpms come back.

A better way to check that water regulator function is to disconnect the hose at the pipe and hold it overboard. While tied to a trailer backed into the water, rev the motor and visually look to see that the water stream is reduced at high rpm coming from the hose.
If you ride the ski much with the hose pinched, you will cook the couplers and exhaust hoses.

All better now.. The regulator was not even tight on the fitting going into the pipe..

not all better now, still doing the same thing.

Must be raves, but what is left to do? Could there be a bad solenoid, or do I need to adjust red caps out more?

Did you clean the internal fuel filters in the carbs?

no, but I will when I install the F/A's.

Wouldn't this totally restrict it from getting up to top rpm, because like I said after about 2 minutes at WOT it will get to 7000, at least on SD tach. Seems weird..

I have yet to see one of those solenoids go bad, only broken from installing sparkplugs.

Clean the rave valves, then you will know if that is the problem or not.
