'98 GTI Fuel Guage/Baffle

Hey all...I'm having trouble with my '98 GTI Fuel Guage/Baffle. I have read virtually every posting about this subject on this site and I can't seem to find anything on my particular problem. When I bought the machine the fuel guage was not reading so I put a new baffle in it and it still didn't read at first. Then I pulled the 4 fuses on the MPEM and placed them back and it started working. Now it has stopped working again and I don't know what to do next. Which fuse actually controls the fuel guage? Has enyone had a problem like this? All suggestions are welcome.

Just dawned on me that the DESS stopped giving the double beep but would still start and run as usual. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
