  • Accelerator Pump again

    G'day Crew

My 97 XP accelerator pump still will not operate, the ski runs great, but when I squeze the throttle there is no squirt from the outlet of the pump or into the carb jet at the top.

I figure it must have a problem getting fuel into it, because where it gets fuel from (jet chamber in rear carb, it must have fuel in there other wise the ski wouldnt run).

It holds pressure, I have blocked one pipe and pressurised the other, so the diaphram isnt stuffed. I have cleaned it out.

The lever is being pressed in, everytime I use the throttle.

Does it really make that much difference if it works????

I am really confused with this one, as the SEADOO manual dosent have anything about how it works. Only the parts manual shows it....

I understand its winter over in USA, but its summer in Australia, and I would really like to get it going properly, so if some one understands my problem, click add post and tell me.

    Thanks!! :D

A very common thing is that the nozzels at the top of the carbs get clogged up. Run a small wire through them, then some carb cleaner spray through them.

A metering jet in the fuel inlet hose controls the fuel supply to the pump. A check valve on the fuel outlet hose prevents air from entering the system.

Inspection: Disconnect inlet and outlet hose from accellerator pump nipples. Using a suitable pump guage tester, perform the following test proceeding as follows:
Install pump guage tester on inlet nipple. Obstruct outlet nipple with your finger and hold while pumping. Pump tester to 28kPa or 4 psi. Diaphram must stand pressure for 10 seconds. If pressure drops, replace diaphram.
Verify accelerator pump check valves operation as follows: Connect a clean plastic tubing to the valve inlet nipple and alternately appy pressure and vacume. The check valve should release with pressure and hold under vacume. Repeat the same proceedure with the injectors. Apply pressure and vacume through the disconnected hose. Note: Injectors are also equipt with check valves.

To adjust the linkage. With the engine not running, start adjustment by loosening the adjustment screw until there is a gap between lever tab and pump plunger. Turn adjustment screw clockwise until lever tab touches plunger. Then turn an additional 1/4 turn clockwise. The adjustment is now completed

Na, its not the nozzels, there is no fuel comming out of the accelerator pump. I dont understand how the internals of the pump work.

There are two pipes on the acc. pump one has a lot of resistance and the other very very little is this correct. I think maybe one has a spring and ball valve??????? NOT SURE BUT...

        Thanks...

          Thanks Bill, great explanation.

Now if seadoo only had that in the manual it would of helped a lot.

          Thanks Again.

I pretty much copied it from my oem GSXL service manual, (same accellerator pump)..

              Thanks Bill

I realise that not all SD800's have accerator pump carbs, is there much difference between the pwc's that have them and the ones that dont?

As in acceration etc, is there any noticable difference?

              Thanks Dude!!

Accellerator pumps are a good thing when they work properly. They give the motor the extra fuel it needs when accellerating from a stop or out of a turn, and they provide better fuel milage because it allows them to run smaller jets in the other circuits. The 97 and later 782's have accellerator pumps, as do all 951 models with carbs.

We have recently designed a set of racing carbureators that have electricly controlled solenoids that activate fuel circuits that do pretty much the same thing as mechanical accellerator pumps. They are being tested now down in Florida.
