Is there any reason why you can't use a regular stainlees steel clamp on the rubber boot where the drive shaft connects to the flywheel.
I don't have the special pliers needed to reinstall,and wasn't a problem getting off.
is it a balance issue or a sealing issue, why they use that particular style clamp?

It's just the clamp they chose to use. You can use a screw clamp or zip-tie, no problem.
