  • help: taking off flywheel

I was trying to pull off my flywheel earlier tonight and ran into a problem(91 sp 580 yellow engine). I had the puller setup and was trying to get it off but one of the bolts i put into the flywheel pulled out and messed up the treads and flywheel. I need a new flywheel anyways but any idea how i can get it off without the puller? I cant retap the hole because it pulled the metal apart.

    Thx,
    Denis

you have to use a puller to remove it. Make sure the bolt is in far enough to grab more threads. Also do not go too deep or you can damage your stator.

Drill the hole out to the size needed to use a 10mm tap.

i tried tapping it but the metal is damaged too much. It acually pulled the main structure of it so there is no support for a bolt anymore. Flywheel must be on there really good for it to pull the metal loose like that. Any other ideas?

I have not worked on one of these motors but it sounds like you need a torch...or at least heat it up if possible without melting any wires, etc.
