  • Causes of failed clamp on carbon ring

Just reinstalled motor, about 30 min into test drive ski takes on water. I discovered the clamp on the carbon ring\accordian hose failed.....What could have caused this? Dump luck? Misalignment? Bent shaft? Thanks for advice

If the clamp was overtightened it could come un-done. Sometimes they just fail. Also, make sure your carbon ring is in proper shape as to prevent leakage thru this in the future.

If it squished the fiberglass part it clamps to you can can get a new one from your dealer. Just saw it off and glue a new one on.

The clamps are made of Stainless Steel. SS has what is technically reffered to as a "wear life". Once it ages, it becomes brittle and viberations will break it. I get lots of watercraft with broken clamps in the shop.

The best defense is to replace old clamps with new clamps when rebuilding watercraft.
