Rotary Shaft Bearings

My Rotax 800 is in peices, was wondering the 2 bearings that are on the rotary valve shaft, are they meant to be enclosed bearings (ie; bearings not visible) or exposed (so the gear oil can lube them)???????

Because the smaller bearing of the 2, the one that stays in the cases is sealed. And the bearing on the RV shaft has the gear side exposed while the seal side is sealed?? [img]/graemlins/angryfire.gif[/img]

May I ask how SBT or WCM or anyone else sets these bearings up? [img]/graemlins/winkanim.gif[/img]

I would assume both bearings would be open, to aid lubrication? I cant tell what they are in my seadoo manual, and I dont know if my engine has had the bearings replaced previously? :(

We set them up just like you described.

The bearing pressed into the case is not sealed, but has a shield on the side adjacent to the RV gear.

I thought the same thing myself until I had to remove mine from my case.

The bearing you are talking about, is it the one on the RV shaft, or the one that stays in the cases?

If its the one that stays in the case, do you mean that the side that we can see is sealed, but the other side is exposed (plug side)?

If so why would the other side be exposed, how would the oil get past in to the other side of the bearing???? :D

It is "shielded" not sealed. The shield holds oil in the bearing behind the shield.
