  • 951 DI performance and reliability?

After poking around here, I have not found much on this motor. I am in the market for a ski
and am leaning heavily towards a 951 DI powered craft. Are they plagued by water ingestion?
How is there performance compared to there carberated cousins? I am familiar with the exhaust
joint leak but also read that the head gasket on 951s needs to be tightned up every 25-30
hours, as sealing after several heat cold cycles fails, allowing water in pto cylinder. Any thoughts
    observations ?

the problems have been fixed with water injestionms, i have a 00gtxdi and that hting runs great about same performance as carb model, i accually think the acceleration is better with the di. i havn't had anyproblem with the machine, and it is very good on gas

I traded my 98 XPL for a 2002 GTX DI last summer for that reason.

I have had zero problems with my 951 DI and now 40 hours on the meter.

Pretty much all of those concerns have been remedied since the 2000 models have been out. After one time getting the heads re-torqued after breakin, you should be set to go. The DI's are very reliable and performance is no worse at sea level and can be much better at any higher altitudes as they adjust themselves automatically. DI's start very easily too.
