  • xp won't stay running in water

I just checked the fuel lines at the intake baffle on my 96 xp and found out the previous owner had switched the vent tube and carb return line how this happened I'm not sure. Could this cause a vacuum to be created in the gas tank? My jet ski starts and runs fine out of water, but once it is in the water it will die after 5 minutes. And won't restart for about 1/2 hour and it is not overheating. I think this maybe from the vacuum releasing? I have not had a chance to test it out since this happened. Plug color is a light brown. Carbs were just rebuilt this season... I have not had it running yet on the water for long enough to really ride.

Nope. You have some other problem as both the vent and the return lines just go to tubes in the baffel that are exactly the same. It really wouldn't matter if they were switched.

If you think your tank is not venting and causing a vacume problem, loosen the gas cap and try it again.

My guess is that something is still wrong with your carbs, or you have some other problem.
