  • 1999 Seadoo VTS Problem

    I've got a 1999 Sea-Doo XP Limited and the Variable trim system (VTS) will move down but not up. I've tried reseating the cables throughout but no luck. Gauge indicates full down now and I can't move it up at all. Any ideas on what to check? Thanks!

    Pray to god that the fuse in the MPEM is blown, otherwise you might have water in the vts box/trim motor???

      The fuse wouldn't be blown, or it would not have gone down, or it blew when it got down ? Always a good idea to check the fuse first. It is the 7.5 amp fuse in the coil box on that model.

      Maybe a bad "up" switch ? Try jumping the wires on the up switch to see if it works.

        Bill, Can you also disconnect the vts from the wireing harness and connect it to a battery and reverse the polarity to see if it is the motor/linkage or the electrical controls?

          Thanks for the ideas so far! I'll see if we can trace down the up switch wires. The fuse is NOT blown...fyi. We checked that right away. Stills earching.....

            been there done that vts!!!check the boot for leaks i would bet there was one.Just a little rip would cause havoc in that little black box.

              If the motor runs one direction, it will run the other direction.
              The problem is either the switch, the wires or the electronic components inside of the VTS box (which you cannot fix).
              Yes you can unplug the wires and test using the leads. That is what I had in mind when I said to jump the switch. ( the switches rarely fail).

              Always test both sides of a fuse with a tester to see if both sides are hot. Sometimes they look good when they are not good, or not connecting well.

              That rubber boot causes thousands of vts failures. Use plastic clamps on it so they don't cut the boot. I use tye-wraps.

              After flooding a hull, open the VTS cover and dry it out. Same if you have a oil box (some 782's). This stuff is not 100% waterproof.
