  • 1997 GTX SeaDoo won't start

My SeaDoo quit and will not restart. The MAINTENANCE light came on and it said 12VOLT LOW. The battery only has 4 hours on it. I came home and charged the battery and it started but quit immediately. Now the motor will not even turn over. I think it may have seized up. Does anyone have any ideas before I pull the motor?

The MAINT display doesn't mean anything, it's just a reminder to get in for routine service appointments.

The 12V low is very common to Sea-Doo's, which have extremely sensative electrical systems, and often register low using the cheap standard wet batteries. Using a AAGM batteyr solves that problem and gives much better performance.

Pull your spark plugs and rotate the engine by hand, I bet it's fine - you probably have a bad battery, connection or starter. See this thread.

      bryan,
thanks for your quick response. the battery does not appear to be the problem. i cleaned all connections. with a test light, i have power at the starter. i pulled the plugs but cannot rotate the flywheel by hand. i am going to pull the starter with the hope that it might be jammed. i also tried using the car battery as you suggested. all i get is a clicking at the celenoid. thanks again.

Yeah, you either have a jammed starter, seized engine or pump.

          Thanks Bryan:

It looks as though we are going to need a motor.

We have the motor ready to come out.

Our next question is what motor do i need?

Our motor has Type 787 on it? Other info #4820045 if this helps?

          Thanx......

              Bryan:

I pulled the motor and it appears that I have spun a crankshaft bearing if that is possible.

This motor had just been rebuilt at a local Seadoo dealer for the previous owner maybe 30 hours back.

My problem is that The bottom case has a hairline crack in it, the crack is about two inches long and goes from side to side. It is hardly noticable and I am not sure if it goes all of the way through or not.

Does this disqualify me from a core exchange?

                No, we can repair that.

Most likely the engine needed a complete overhaul, but someone got cheap and just threw a top-end on it, delaying the inevitable.
