• Bill: FP twins for 951?

Bill,
What would you think about the FP twins for use on an RX? F/A's, carbs rejet, head milled, impeller repitched and of course M/T rev limiter as only other mods. What kind of expectations should I have for speed and reliability. Once you have the ski initially setup and tuned, is it basically set it and forget it, in the sense that I would not have to tune every time I would ride? This would be for rec only, no race. Just looking for that ultimate sleeper. I know you have a lot of experience w/ the RXX and just need a real world opinion. How would you feel about the Stock RXX as a rec boat? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Steve,
You just about described an RXX. I think the RXX makes a great rec boat. I don't have to be tuning mine all of the time.

If it were my RX, I'd buy a new Coffman pipe from me (Watercraftmagic) for $675, before I put in twin pipes. It can be just as fast with the Coffman pipe, yet with less trouble. The Twins take up alot of space in there, making it more difficult to do much of anything under the seat.

I also sell the MT ignition controller, the re-jetting kit and the correct impellor to make it all work.

This is a good question to be addressed in the aftermarket forum at this site.

The last Sea-Doo dealer I worked for set up his personal RX with a Coffman's pipe, and virtually all of the other components for an RXX, this was well before the RXX was released! When both ski's were radared, same day, same conditions, same rider, same radar, same radar operator, the RX with the Coffman's pipe was less than 1 mph slower on the top, and had a quicker holeshot than an RXX.

Just my two cents worth,

So really, no problem other than taking up alot more space than the Coffmans? A little tougher to tune initially, right? I know the Coffmans is a great pipe, I found a set of new FP's from a reliable source at an awesome price though! Although it is not as cheap as your Coffmans, Bill! If its really that much trouble to live with everyday, then I'll kick it around some more. Thanks to all. :(

John,
I surprizes me that your Coffman piped RX was stronger on the bottom end. That is what is good about the twin pipes that were available when that RX was built.
My testing has shown the Coffman to be as fast on top end, but gives away a couple of lengths on the bottom end to the twins. Of course, my testing was with high compression and racing fuel. That can make a big difference if yours were both running pump gas and lower compression heads.

Bill,
We were running a Rossier "stage 1" head with 150 psi cranking pressure. The ski had the same skat-trak pump and impeller setup as the RXX, the carbs were worked over by Keith Waibel, I don't know all of the specifics, but they are similar to ones I have observed on Bo DuPriest's modified engines. He also "massaged" the crankcases and the cylinders. We were using an MPEM for an RXX, that was ordered from Sea-Doo, I don't recall where the timing offset was. We were using good quality, name brand premium unleaded pump gas. Oh, the D-Sea-Bel system was removed too.

John,
Bo is using modified I series carbs on his modified boats ? I don't recall seeing those on his stuff at Havasu, Long Beach and Ventura ???
