Actually, 47 mph was about what that model would run in perfect conditions.

how? it has the 580cc in it right? So if a 94XP(657x) runs at 48-49mph then 45 is more like it IMO

That is true, but when I did a magazine test for Sea Doo in 1995, I took a random stock 95 SPI from Sea Doo West and tuned it before we took it to the test. It radared 47mph on a Stalker. I did say *perfect conditions*

Ever wonder why magazine tests are almost always higher speeds than real life ??

LOL!

Maybe there was a 2mph current headed toward the radar gun...

Sometimes when I go head first into the wind I feel like I am doing 100!

Have fun.

Supermac,
Nope. Tested in two directions on a currentless stretch of a saltwater canal.
Typically, under good conditions, salt water is worth about 1mph consistently on just about any ski. When you ride a lightweight runabout, such as the SPI, if you hang your feet over the very back bumper, only using your toes to support your weight, you can get another mph or so from the boat.
I will not publicly devulge the other minor things that I did to get the ski to "test well" for the magazines.

Did you ever wonder how the orginal tests on the Ultra 150 produced speeds of 68mph ?

Or how about the Yamaha 1200 ? When it was tested, it went 3 mph faster than a production model.

New watercraft buyers are unaware of the actual speeds of watercraft and are easily swayed in their buying decisions by high top speed numbers. Don't think for a moment that manufactors are not aware of this fact. They pay pretty well for a "good test"

supermac, i know what you mean about going into the wind, it feels like your flying when you hit the little waves and they fly back
