  • Propulsion Problem

I have a 96 Seadoo GTX {787} I was riding today when I went to give it the gas the engine reved up as normal but it made a loud grinding noise from what sounds like the rear end of the boat and tries to get onto plane but is unable to. I thought maybe a rear end bearing but there is no water in the boat. I just idled back to the dock, pulled it out of the water and couldnt find anything stuck in the intake grate or pump area. This noise and problem is only evident when above 4000 rpm. Another thing to note is that the water temp was 79 degrees but the engine temp was around 92. Is there something stuck in the raw water system or is this a pump/ driveshaft impeller issue?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely time to pull your pump out for a full inspection. It could be bearings, the driveshaft or impeller splines, wear ring, etc.

Tech Support, thanks for the info. Now when I take the pump off will I have to have any special tools or have the shaft/engine realigned? Also if I determine the pump is bad, is it recommended just to replace the whole thing or parts? Thanks for the help.

No alignment is neccesary, and I would send your bad assembly to www.impros.com - they also have instructions for removal.
