  • Updated Drive Shafts 97-98

On a previous post, their was discussion of Arctic Cat updating their Drive Shafts during the 97-98 year period. How can you tell, any visuals, if you have the updated version or the old version? I have a 97 Monte Carlo (640) and to date I have had no problems but it would be nice to know what drive shaft setup I got.

My shaft looks like this: The Crank come out the motor and connects to the shaft. The Shaft is skinny at this area, then widens as it goes into a housing. This housing contains a Bearing and Seal carrier and continues with a hose clamp on a rubber tube that extends to the hull. There are two grease zerks on this configuration as well. Any guesses or do both versions look alike?

    Thanks!

That's the old style. The old are splined shafts that slide into a splined coupler. The new style is a fingered coupler with a rubber dampner in between.
