  • high idle

I have a 98 r1000, just fired it up and the idle just keeps climbing as high as 6000rpm. I turned the idle screw back a half a turn and its idleing just over 3000rpms. What should the idle be at and could there be something else causing this. This boat is going into its 4th season never had any problems in the past.

Does it ever idle down? If you were running it out of the water, the rpm's are going to be high, but not 3000 i don't think, it should only be like 1400-1500 in the water. Where in Mi are you, I'm from Detroit area.

Set it in the water to around 1500, but 2500-3000 out of the water is not unusual.

Thanks Brian and Ironrangr I'll put t in the water tonight and reset the idle. I live in Upper Michigan near Marquette. I do most of my rideing on Lake Superior, been really cold lately hard to get any rideing time.
