  • 1.5mm Over Pistons?

Was told on this forum from an SBT advisor I could rebuild my SBT motor (W/27 HRS) with SBT 1.5 over pistons. So I call to order them and they no longer sell them!! Any ideas on where I could get these, or would SBT kindly send me one of there famous 1.0 over jugs in exchange.

They {SBT} gave me a # to Central Valley Tigershark----They don't exist or they just don't answer the phone.

I'm sorry it may have been me (Bryan) that told you we had them - they are in my Catalog, I didn't know we did not have them anymore.

I looked, and everyone but WSM completely dropped support already, and WSM only goes to 1.00mm as well.

No we can't swap jugs, but you can purchase sleeves and go back to stock size, whatever brand you like.

I own several "skis", its not my only one. Obviously you don't understand a business situation. It has nothing to do with Tigershark. They don't punch the motors 1.00 over on a fresh rebuild. Then it lasts 27hrs, and all I get now is the finger. All I ask is a little help, without sticking a fortune in a discontinued ski

          Thank you O wise 1 !!

Sir, no one is giving you 'the finger' by any means. Demand for the 1.5 oversize pistons was virtually nothing, and we, along with everyone else, decided not to produce them anymore. That's it. We use 1mm oversize in our engines to accomodate the widest array of damages, to minimize the need to resleeve the cores. With the exception of this engine, there are multiple sizes beyond that, and it's not an issue. In this case, if you have so much damage that it must be bored, you will need to resleeve, and you can go back to stock.

What exactly happened to your engine, anyway?

Look at my past posts for explanation on motor issues. I don't mean to sound like an @$$, but this is very frustrating after spending $ 800 with you about 2 1/2 yrs. ago, and only 27hrs. later, the head gasket blows and now since it was bored 1.00 over at SBT I have to jump thru hoops to find a set of pistons or spend an extra $200 (for sleeves) plus a piston set to get the thing running again. I would think that you would be able to atleast help me out some. I'm really not a bad guy, just a very frustrated one right now.

Sir I understand you are frustrated, but I'm not exactly sure why you think you are entitled to free product here. You bought the engine, it's way past warranty and obviously you didn't use the ski much at all for whatever reason. Obviously the engine or gasket wasn't defective, if it lasted 27 hours. Perhaps the head bolts were loose and allowed the gasket to breach. Retorquing of head bolts is required periodic maint. of a ski - was it done? I'm not guessing as to the cause of your failure, but that's a leading one.

I'm sorry you had a failure, and I'm sorry repairs cost money - and unfortunately on that engine the usual gammut of parts is not available, so you need to go a more expensive route. What exactly are you implying we are doing wrong - I really don't understand?

I never asked for anything free, but thanks for your replies. I just thought since you bore all motors 1.00 mm over you could offer me some kind of replacement piston option rather than having to go thru all the troubles of re-sleeving my jugs. I found some 1.31 pistons from Wiseco if you run into this problem again. Thanks for your help, the forum is very nice. I'm sure I will use again in the future
