Fuel line or return line

I have a 96 tigershark, monticarlo 700. I think I have put the fuel filter on the wrong line. How can I tell which is which. There are two fuel lines coming from the tank. One goes directly to the carbs and the other goes to a three way valve and then to the carbs. Which one is the fuel supply and which one is the return. Thanks.

The fuel supply line connects to the fuel on/res/off valve.
