640 Montego Sponsons

Forgive the question if it is stupid.
Will a 97 TS640 Montego DLX benefit from any sponson modification/replacement? The oem ones that are currently installed are a little beat up, i was thinking of getting a new set and wanted to see whether it was worth looking at aftermarket options.
I know the 640 isnt meant to be a racer, but would like to make it a little more sporting.

Get a deep intake grate and ride plate that would work well and give it more bite in the turn and not let the pump unload in rough water.

I have heard stories about people that cut the fins out of the intake grate on the OEM unit. Its probably much better to get an aftermarket one however, any suggestions here?

That does work better then stock but not as good as the deep fin type. I have several new ones if your looking for one.
