  • Couple more 640 ?'s

Shop says my stator is bad on my 96 Monte Carlo. How common is this. Also, I am thinking about ditching the whole oil pump thing and going premix, there is a line under front bin that has a "filter" on the end and it just drips into the hull while the engine is running. Nobody can tell me where it goes, if its a filter or check valve, or anything else. My service manual doesn't even help. So I figure if oil is going there I may not be getting enough where I need it. My question is, after I block off the pump can I leave the oil tank empty. I want to go premix on my 92 sp also, and have read here that the tank still needs to be full because the oil is also used elsewhere in the engine. Thanks for all the help.

Also, which is better 40:1 or 50:1
and since me and math ain't cool
how many ounces per 5 gal of gas?

It would be common for a ten year old ski to have a stator fail at some point from the vibration and heat.

I would block off the oil injection and you can remove the oil tank or just cap off all the fittings. What is at the other end of the line that is leaking?

Not sure what premix amount you should be running, but since I know off the top of my head, 40:1 is 16oz of oil. I believe that 50:1 is something like 12.x or 13.x oz.. don't remember for sure though!

I have always run 40:1 in my 770 Tigersharks with no problems.

          Sea-Doo is 40:1, Tigershafk is 50:1.

          32:1 = 4oz/gal
          40:1 = 3.2oz/gal
          50:1 = 2.5oz/gal
Where is the other end of the line connected? Can you take a pic?

One end comes from the oil tank. It runs to the front of the ski and terminates at a filter(I think) with nothing at the other end. I will take a pic and post tonight after work. Thanks again.

here they are, I hope. The second pic is where the line comes from out of the top of the oil tank.
ok it didn't work I'll try again later.

Look on your oil pump - there should be a line coming from the tank to it - is it there?

Yes, and there is a line from the top of the oil tank to under the storage bin and that goes nowhere but drip drip into the hull.

The top line is the vent. If you are getting oil out of the vent, it means you are over filling the tank. There is only one line from the bottom of the oil tank - it goes tot he pump.
