Monte Carlo Base Gasket

Will be completing my rebuild in the next few days.

I have new cylinder base gaskets and was wonderng which side up/down do they face. They all have a groove stamped in them around the inner edge for sealing out the water but was curious as to which side faces up - the raised edge or the recessed edge? The manual is not clear on this.

Raised up. It doesn't make a big difference though.
