I bought mine at the AC dealer for $9.00... Aligned a 95 Monte Carlo 640

What model ski are you tring to align the engine? They realy are not needed unless you have a 98-99 ski.

The manual for my 1995 daytona 640 says that I must use an alignment tool for it too?

That would be a flat edge and a caliper to measure the coupler with on a 95'

On a 96' and newer you can align it close without the tool.

1. remove the driveshaft seal carrier.
2. install the engine.
3. thread the driveshaft in the engine coupler as normal and tighten.
4. look into the pump area and see if the driveshaft is centered and straight. If not make the needed adjustment with shims between the engine plate and engine mounts.

This will get it very close and TS driveshafts don't strip that often even when they have been out of alignment for years. You would be surprized on how far off most SD, Polaris, TS are right from the factory. I have checked some before takeing the engines out and they aren't even close.
