Run the ski without impeller?

I have my impeller for my '95 Tigershark Montego enroute to Impros for reconditioning. Today I recieved my SBT order and will be rebuilding the carb in an hour or so.

My question is... after the rebuild is it ok to start the engine and check my carb work without the impeller?

You MUST remove the drive shaft first before you start the engine, if not you could damage the floating bearing and possibly the hull as well.
