  • 97 raider overheating?

when i run my wave raider (700cc) at about 1/4 throttle for a few minutes it starts to miss. it sounds like it is only one cylinder is going off, the oil and everything is fine and i know it has a saftey feature that cuts back rpms when it overheats, is this what it is trying to do? (i hope this is making sense) the ski runs fine anywhere from 1/2-full throttle. i was hoping someone could tell me what is wrong with it. thanks

Try opening up your pilot jet. Its the lower of the 2 knobs on the carb.

Wake , list all your mods if any, and what has been tried,it helps to diagnose.......the rev limiter cut out , will keep the ski from going over 3500 rpm, but not just one cylinder, you could have a bad spark plug end(very common), or the coil could be going out................

there are no modifications on it, completely stock, and it has brand new spark plugs (they have been changed three times in the last month and all the other plugs did the same) it may not be going on one cylindar thats just what it sounds like. what do you mean by coil? and how hard is it to change if that is the problem. thanks for the help

The first thing to try is to unscrew the plug cap from the end of the spark plug wire, then cut off about one inch, of spark plug wire, then reinstall the cap by screwing it back on , if that doesnt work the coil is the part ,the fires the sparkplugs, and is coneccted to them by way of the sparkplug wires, follow the plug wires back up into that black box with all the screws around it holding it together, the coil is in there , they go for around 30.00 /50.00 depending on where you get it, e-bay always has them .you can do this your self it is not hard, some screws , a couple of bolts, remove connectors.re-install. HERE IS A PICTURE OF THE COIL IT IS #20

would you recommend going ahead and changing the spark plug wires with new ones if i replace the coil?

If you buy a coil the wires will come on it, just usually not the ends.
