I was putting the new motor in and decided to check my pop off on the carbs. The ski is a 99 GP1200, and the pop off pressure was set to almost 60 PSI. The springs that are in there are the shiny gold. I cut the springs down a tad and got the pressures down to about 36-38 PSI. My question is why would someone put that heavy of a spring in there like that? By looking at the diagram of the carburator by having too high of a pop off would make it hard to start, is that correct. The ski was hard to start and usually had to be choked but ran fine after it was going. According to Mikuni's site the shiny gold with a 1.5 seat would take 55 PSI pop off. Guess I am glad I bought the pop off tool! I should have it running tomorrow!

if your engine is basically stock, you most likely need a pop-off over 50psi to keep the carbs from dribbling at idle. Somewhere between 50-55psi is ideal and best to have the pop-off consistent (+/- 1psi) across all three carbs .
