  • '97 Waverunner 760 re-code gauge

We had to disconnect the battery on our jetski and then when we hooked it back up, the gauges didn't work. We noticed it said that it was locked or soemthing. It looks like we need to enter a code to unlock it. My boyfriend won't take the jetski out until the gauges work properly. The buttons we have to choose from are:
    A/Set
    B
    C
    Please help!!!!

Locate the single blue wire connector, usually in the wire bundle against the gas tank under the seat. Disconnect the blue connector, and hold down MODE until it prompts you to enter the new code. Then reinstall the wire plug.

I'm sorry, disregard that last question. Ok, it looks like my boyfriend already did what you stated before, and they are still not working. It either says start and we starty the engine, or it says lock. Nothing else appears on the gauge. Any other suggestions?

Then he didnt do it right. That sequence writes a new code - whatever 4 letter code you want. You hold down MODE and enter your new code to cycle between lock and start.

Then there is a wire loose or the cluster needs replacement.

                  Re: '97 Waverunner 760 re-code gauge

Could you be more specific. What is a cluster? How can you tell if it needs to be replaced, is it trial and error? And how do you replace a cluster.

Another Question: Last time we had it out it was cutting in and out. We would be going about 40 and it would slow down then speed up then slow down and so on. I replaced the spark plugs and that did not fix it. What else would cause that? If the batterie is going dead could that cause it?

                  Thanks for the help!!!

                    The guages.

If the ski runs ok, the battery is probably just fine - test it on a multimeter to be sure, you should have at least 12.5v.

If all the wire connections test ogod, the gauge cluster needs replacement.

so basically just check to make sure that all the wires are connected tightly and if that still doesn't work then we have to replace the whole cluster? How much can clusters run?
