I have a question about greasing the pump bearing housing and starter idle gear. The manual says to do this every 100 hrs. I am just over 100 hrs and was going to do this.
Could someone give me the correct procedure on doing this? The service manual gives the specs on the capacity, but how do I know when the bearing housing and the idle gear has enough grease?

    Thanks

There Are 2 Grease Fittings On Top Of The Motor Bolted To The Head. Put In A Few Pumps Of Good Quality Marine Grease. I Would Recommend The Drive Bearing Being Greased More Often Them 100 Hrs. The Starter Drive Gear Does Not Require As Much. Too Much In The Front Cover Will Make A Big Mess And Get Grease All Over The Pick Ups And Stator.

IF they have never been greased before you will need to use more grease as
the hoses to the bearings are empty

Does this maintenance task apply to the '98 GP1200 also? If so I missed it when I looked over my manual.

while you're at it, now would also be a good time to replace the grease in the pump cone as well. I use a 50:50 mix of amsoil marine grease and Amsoil 75W-140 synthetic gear lube (mix it up well to a uniform consistency before putting it into the cone).
