  • FX140 Winterizing and Lube

I have an FX140 and was wondering if you need to put some type of anti-freeze in the coolant lines? One dealer suggested putting some RV anti-freeze in the lines until you see it coming out. How would I put in the anti-freeze? Should use a funnel in the flush port adapter?

One other question do you know how much grease you should put in the intermediate housing? I'm not sure the original owner put any grease in there and now I'm up to 25 hours. I tried putting some grease in the fitting and it would not go into the fitting with a normal grease gun tip. Just ended up coming out all over.

Hi, why anti freeze? You should not have any water inside the engine which could crack the block. Check the procedures in the Technical Articles section on this forum.

P.S. Squeeze the rubber hose, that will tell you if you have grease in it. The fitting sit's very tight inside the grease gun tip I noticed and you can hear it locking in.

I winterize my XL 1200 with anti-freeze just to be safe, but according to SBT it is not required. If you do elect to do it, you will need to pump it in to the motor with a electric pump connected to a section of garden hose (so it can be attached to the flush kit)

Usually when you grease the bearings it only takes maybe 1/2 a pump. It is not like a universal joint where you pump until you see it come out of the bearings. At least that is how I understand it.

most PWC motor do not hold water BUT if you have some sand or a clogg and your motor holds a little you will be very sorry you did not spend the 2bucks on some antifrezze , besides you can not get all the water out of the water box , i fix many skis every spring due to freezing water lines and cracked blocks . its not worth the chance .

Thanks, I did not think of that. I'm in So Cal and I don't think I have to worry about this so much anyway but good to know.:)
