I called AutoZone, Pep Boys, and O'Reilly auto parts stores in Houston. No luck. So, I bought a flywheel puller at Sears and will continue looking for a chain wrench.
Is there any secret to removing the PTO flywheel? I presume that it unscrews by turning it counter-clockwise, correct?
Also, I'm having a tough time removing the starter from the flywheel housing. What's the best way to get it out?
Thanks.

Uncle Buck our engines are very simillar, if you are referring about the flywheel, the bolt is easiest to get off with an impact gun,it will take it off quick, ,other wise you will have to hold the flywheel still, it is not as easy as it sounds, the flywheel is TAPERED, to fit on the crank, so it will be very tight, it will sometimes make a "POP" sound when removing it, make sure your bolts on the puller are ,good rated bolts, and that you screw them as far as they will go into the flywheel, I have a fywheel holder tool that i made it works pretty good, but the impact will do the job,I have 3 types of strap wrenches also "chain..rubber,and nylon, but I have not had to use them, after the flywheel is off ,inspect the KEY, this is a great time to replace it if it is damaged, they will actually get slightly offset before they shear off, it will look something simmilar to a step, REPLACE IT...it is cheap insurance...."sorry no pun intended", if you need a tool for that engine e-mail me direct, I live in Houston, and would be happy to lend them to you.

Uncle?? you are speaking of the couplers???right....the one on the rear?, I have the tool that fits inside the fingers of the coupler to remove it. THOSE..can be a lot of fun, sometimes.....I use my flwheel holding tool and then the coupler tool and remove them.....................still fun sometimes.....
With a little heat and the coupler tool, the coupler will come off easily. If you don't have a flywheel lock up tool, remove the head and put a small block of wood in the clyinder and re-install the head to lock up the motor. It spins off counter-clockwise.
