  • WaveVenture 1100 (97) - Going Premix But How

There are many threads dealing with blocking off the oil pump and going to premix but I can't find one that describes clearly how to do it from start to finish. Can you point me in the right direction or tell me how? Big questions I have are:
    • What is a "primer" and do I need to install one (where do I buy and how to install)
    • A thread mentioned "splicing" the wires to the oil resevoir to eliminate the digital readout from working. Splice to me means cut and connect to one another. Is this what I do or just cut/sever the wires so they no longer make a connection?
    • I sense I need to block off the lines to the carb. The block-off kit I rec'd did not have nipples to use to do this. Any suggestions as alternatives?
    • Do I sever the choke cable if I am going to premix?
SBT - You guys are great! I am done installing one of your engines and can't wait to try it. A little nervous about whether I tightened everything right... several bolts were tough to get the torque wrench to. I'll keep the fingers crossed! Thanks for the great customer service you provide! Read the tech article, it details everything.

Primers replace the choke system to squirt fuel downt he cars for easier starting. You don't need it unless you have hard cold start problems.

Our block off kits come with nipples. If yours did not please call in.

Choke has nothing to do with premix.

Re: WaveVenture 1100 (97) - Going Premix But How

I have a Venture 1100 and went premix last year. First issue I see is do not cut the wires to the oil sending unit. This does not trick the display to think the oil tank is full. Simply remove the sending unit from the tank. There are two floats on the sending units. Use something (I used tape) to make both floats come at the way to the top and empty your oil tank and put the sending unit back into the slot.

If your engine is already in place mounted the hull I must say it is extremely tight to get to the oil pump on the Venture 1100. I had to remove all 4 hood bolts disconnect the steering and reverse cable and move them aside along with removing the gas inlet from the hood to allow enough room to move the hood enough to get acess barely to the oil pump. Remove the pump and put the block off plate bolted to the flywheel housing.

      Next put all back together.

The best way to do the next part for me was look at exactly how much fuel your tank holds. There should be a label on it that will tell. You can guess on how much fuel you have or add the oil into the tank and base it on if your tank was fuel. So if your tank holds 13.9 gallons and you want a 50:1 ratio add according to the specs on your 2cycle oil. This will at least get oil mixed into your gas.

Your pump will have three lines going to the carbs. Simply take the lines off the carbs and put the nipples in place.

I was able to take the feed line from my oil tank off the pump and put it on the vent part of the oil tank allowing me to keep the oil tank without it leaking into the hull.

Then you want to remove your main fuel like going into the fuel pump which mine was a #$(%($ to get off. Get a container or something to drain some fuel into. You can have someone blow some air into the fuel tank and let the Fuel in the line flow some into you see the premix start. Do this each time with the fuel valve On Reserve and in the On position. When this happens your almost done.

Have some fogging oil ready to spray into the carbs for about 1 minute of run time. This will allow the fuel already in the carbs get used and the premix to run through the system. After this is all done go fill your tank full of fuel and you should be done.

Even though the tech article states much of this. This is exactly what I did on my Venture.

I found it easier to empty the tank (only had 6gal) and premix the fuel/oil in the gas can first, then pour it in all at once. Of course I had to empty the tank because the old fuel was bad, so you may not be in the same situation.

years ago yamaha routed the oil lines to the top of the carbs to coat the choke shafts. The choke chafts would corrode and bind when the boat was used in Salt enviorments. Since they did this (1992) the only binding choke shafts I run into are on boats owned by rental companies that have gone to premix. I see many a Sea Doo that have corroded binding chokes and wonder why they can't do this as well. Most should fix their oil injection. It's there for convenience!

I think oil pump provides a richer ratio than 50 /1......for a reason?

No, it's 50:1 constant on that model.

This sounds like my problem exactly!

I have a 1996 WaveVenture 1100 and it has been converted to pre-mix.

Last time I used my ski was in October and in salt water. I pulled it out of the garage 2 weeks ago and the choke was stuck big time. If I use some force (big wrench positioned carefully) I can move the choke back and forth, but it just does not seem to get easier. I'm worried though that I may damage something by forcing it so much. Once I opened the choke, I was able to start the ski, but not sure how to handle this choke issue.

                Any advice on this appreciated!

                Thanks

Sam - remove the choke shafts and butterflies and install a primer kit. Fixt.

That has nothing to do with the design of the ski, just pure LACK OF CARE. If the user would fog the engine periodically there would be no issues.

Well, I figured it was something that I didn't do right at the end of the season, but thought that I did all I needed to do.

But then again, I'm not sure what you mean by "fog the engine periodically".

What is involved in removing the choke shafts and butterflies and installing a primer kit and where do I get these from, local Yamaha Dealer?

Get fogging oil spray, and spray it into the carbs for a few seconds per cylinder while it's idling, right after you flush - after each ride. Part of normal maint. on a ski.

If I do that now, will it loosen up the choke?

It depends on how bad it is, but I doubt it. Once it gets corroded it really needs to be taken off and cleaned/repaired.

And that would be to do this:

"remove the choke shafts and butterflies and install a primer kit."

Do you guys sell a kit to do this?

                              Thanks,
